Night 1!!!
OK so I made it through my first night of calculus. That frickin room was PACKED. We have room for 32 and overloaded 4!!! The teacher is an aging hippie with a long, gray ponytail and one of the most impressive guts that I have ever seen. I mean HUGE. It makes me curious about what "type" of person is drawn to math. I guess I would THINK that it would be someone who is uptight, and very attracted to rules and established procedures, but the 3 math teachers I have had in my college career have been very cool people. My algebra/college math teacher was wound a little more tightly than these last 2 guys, but she was still very cool. My pre-calc teacher was an old hippie with a long gray ponytail and a big gut, as well. Not as big as this guy's though. So after class it was kind of weird walking to the transit center in the dark, but I made it in 15 minutes, which is about what I thought it would take. For some reason at the end of last year I was taking a bit longer than that; guess I went from a brisk walk to an amble or something. But it works out PERFECTLY because my class gets out at 8:15 and my 41 gets to the Transit Center at 8:30, so if I can leave on time or a couple of minutes early I an be home before 9 on Mondays and Wednesdays at least, and watch Heroes, which is my new favorite TV show. Milestone: getting over my phone phobia and calling the OMA this morning "just because." And not freaking out when he didn't answer. And then being excited when he called back. And then being disappointed when the Boss-Lady came in because I couldn't talk anymore. :) This is progress people. I know that I shouldn't have this fear, but I do, and it's a basic Fear of Rejection. I may come across as all tough and stough, but I'm not. Have a great day!
